The short version

Credentials

Credentials are sufficient to assess whether the person reviewing your manuscript has encountered similar work before.

XP Consulting connects scholars with scholars. Behind Dr Xu-Priour is a small team of specialists, freelance scholars and university academics who each hold a doctorate, and she vets every one of them herself. She assigns each manuscript to the specialist closest to its field, and each diagnostic is signed by the specialist who read the work and countersigned by her.

It is essential that those evaluating your manuscript have themselves submitted work and experienced peer review from the opposite perspective.

Beyond the doctoral level, we align based on the field and type of work, rather than the specific journal. An individual who has published in your area and reviewed for editors within it understands what aspects a marketing or methods reviewer might challenge; demanding that they have appeared in the exact journal you are targeting would be a different, and much less meaningful, assurance.

Where this started

The escape room.

A personal narrative of changing perspectives, in her own words.

“I once believed that ‘learning through play’ was simply lowering educational standards. My view shifted when I observed a colleague replace final exams with escape-room courses. Her students not only succeeded but, months later, retained key concepts — content that even my meticulously prepared lectures failed to instil. This discomfort led me to explore the research behind gamification and behavioural psychology.”
Dr Xu-Priour

Dr Xu-Priour, as a former international student who navigated language barriers, cultural adjustments, and the pressure to publish, offers profound empathy for the challenges educators face globally.

This is the core of everything here. A method that withstands the scrutiny of a real course, a real reviewer, or a real panel holds more value than one that merely sounds correct — and the only way to determine which you possess is to test it against the actual evaluative criteria.

Why a consultancy?

Why this exists at all.

Two insights collectively explain the entire business, including the aspects that incur costs for us.

  • The support is available; it is just not evenly distributed

Some researchers have a present, expert supervisor in their precise subfield. Most have someone stretched across fourteen students, or no one at all. The disparity in outcomes is significant and largely unrelated to the research quality.

  • The category had earned its reputation

Academic support services became synonymous with paper mills, and understandably so. This made it more challenging to market the honest version — and emphasised the importance of publicising what we refuse to do over what we offer.

The aspects that incur costs are intentional. Declining work that does not align and refusing requests that verge on authorship both lose revenue this quarter. They are also what you can check: a refusal comes in writing, with the reason, and every report records what was changed so that you can declare it.

Where to go next

Two directions.
